Smartphones and tablets are great media consumption devices. Nowadays smartphones are coming with larger screen so it is becoming perfect for watching videos and movies. However, without a good media player app you cannot utilize their full potential. The stock Android media player is somewhat limited; it doesn’t support all media file formats. So we need a capable media player to solve this problem. A few days ago I came across a new free media player called VidOn Player which is available for both Android and iOS devices.
VidOn Player is a feature rich media player for smartphones and tablets. It supports various types of video, audio files. All popular video formats like MP4, WMV, AVI, MKV, RMVB, 3GP, MPG, RM, ASF, F4V, FLV are supported. So you don’t need to convert any video files to play on your tablet or mobile phone. VidOn Player can play all types of videos files up to Full HD 1080p resolution. It can even play Blu-ray video files from VidOn server if you have a powerful device and a fast internet connection. Video files with subtitle is supported so you can enjoy movies around the world. Additionally it can even show photos stored in PNG, JPG, JPEG format. You can do some basic photo editing on the player and share the photos on various social networks.
VidOn Player offers a bunch of cool features which are not present on any other similar mobile media player. There is gesture based control which lets you control volume, brightness, fast forward and backward.
VidOn Player can stream media files from remote servers. It supports FTP, DLNA, Windows file sharing, UPnP, NAS, Samba. Setting up remote streaming server is extremely easy; it just takes a few minutes to complete the setup process. If you want to stream media files from your computer then you can do this in two ways. You can either transfer media files using the Wi-Fi Transfer option or install VidOn server client on the computer. Personally I prefer the second option because it lets you stream media files directly from the computer to the phone or tablet. Setting up VidOn server is very easy just download and install the VidOn Server on your Windows computer (XP/7/8). Connect the computer and mobile phone or tablet in the same Wi-Fi network. Open VidOn Player on your phone or tablet and select VidOn Server from the dropdown menu. Here you can see all the shared media files stored on computer and directly stream the files. It is possible to browse computer’s directory and add folders which contains media. If you have movies stored on computer’s hard drive then VidOn Player will automatically fetch related movie info and poster from the internet. This is very unique feature.
VidOn Player works great on Android phone and tablet, Apple iPhone and iPad. It is completely free media player. If you are looking for a good media player which can play all kinds of media files without any need of conversion then look no further. Try VidOn Player and I’m sure you will not be disappointed with its performance.
